It is an easy thing to be malcontented
Living dissatisfied or else misconstructed
To be listless, feeling lost or misdirected
And just generally miserable.
Galled by goalposts ever moving, having hungers.
Stalled by self-recriminating, wanting suffers.
Too brief is the pleasure that possessing offers
When more and better are procurable.
Where I once craved candle, I have lamp and oil
Where I once cried hassle, I know pleasant toil
The bed-ridden who walk would run, and taste turmoil
As slow progress is intolerable.
Donned with what was longed for, it’s still hard to stay glad
What was then good enough becomes a passing fad
Acclimatization can turn lovely to bad
Yesterday’s great now seems deplorable.
